HONOR GRANTS FOR 2016
Annually, REFI makes available Honor Grants to Rockingham County Public School staff through the generosity of our donors. These grants not only support the initiative and creativity of the RCPS staff, they also honor and recognize individuals that have a strong sense of support for public education in our community. The honor grants are listed below and identify the area of specific support if identified by the donor or the individual being recognized.
Paula Frazier Honor Grant
To be submitted by an elementary principal focusing on instructional leadership, specifically in the area of literacy or mathematics.
Nancy Mast Honor/Memorial Grant
Upon Nancy's death in 2015, this grant was established to honor and recognize her past accomplishments and excellent service to RCPS. Fittingly, this grant will focus on early literacy.
Charlette Mcquilkin Honor Grant
This Honor Grant is specifically for English Language Learner Teachers and/or Special Education Teachers with no specific instructional area identified.
Steve Leaman Honor Grant
This grant is available at the high school level only and will provide funding for the selected initiative that supports programs to benefit identified lower-socioeconomic students.
John Myers Honor Grant
The criteria for this grant is open to all grade levels and all schools.
Steve Walk Honor Grant
A grant for the Coordinator of Fine Arts to use at their discretion to fund project(s) at the high school level with Turner Ashby High School being given first consideration in the evaluation process. If TAHS does not have an appropriate project request, the grant would then go to another high school project in the area of Fine Arts.
Lois King Honor Grant
Ms. King provided leadership for the British Exchange Program at Montevideo Middle School as a teacher and the Honor Grant provides resources for travel outside the classroom. This grant is limited to Montevideo Middle School and Broadway High School.
Joe Showker Honor Grant
This grant to focus on technology.
Ed Smith Honor Grant
This Honor Grant proposal is to be submitted by school administrators from any level with the initiative focusing on instructional leadership, school improvement, and/or staff development.
Bill Sprinkel Honor Grant
The Bill Sprinkel Honor Grant is open to all levels of instruction with a focus on environmental education.
Kelley Coggsdale Memorial Grant
The Kelley Coggsdale Memorial Grant for Character Counts!© education/activity is open to all grade levels and schools in Rockingham County Public Schools. A VA Cooperative Extension staff member will work in a partnership with the recipient (s) to implement the grant or grants. It can be one grant for $1000 or the money can be split into more than one grant - each receiving assistance from 4H staff.
